ShankaraGowda College of Education is the academic offshoot of People’s Education Society and was established in 1974. It is located in the P.E.S. College of Engineering Campus., a place renowned as a Centre of Educational Institutions where academic facilities are given right from Secondary School up to research studies in various branches of Humanities, Science and Technology. It is a campus of beauty, of lush green gardens, nestled in an atmosphere of cool, hygienic breeze. The college is situated(near Bannur Road) at Mandya, popularly known as “Sakkare Nagara”(Sugar City), in between Bangalore and Mysore at a distance of 100 km from Bangalore and 45 km from Mysore. It is one of the Pioneer teacher education institutions in Karnataka.

The college was established in 1974 to commemorate the 60th birth day of Sri K.V.Shankara Gowda, who was known as ‘PURUSHA SARASWATHI’ of Mandya District and called ‘NITHYA SACHIVA’ by Poet Laureate KUVEMPU, for his work as Minister of Education in the Government of Karnataka during the early eighties. It is a College of Education established and run by the People’s Education Trust(R), which at present is headed by a great visionary and a strict disciplinarian Dr.H.D.Chowdaiah.

The College has witnessed a noticeable changes and tremendous progress during last two decades. It has Computerised Library, Well equipped Computer Laboratory, Language Laboratory, Science Laboratories for Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Mathematics, Educational Technology Room and Sport Room.

The College has obtained permanent affiliation and is affiliated to the University of Mysore, Mysore. The college offers B.Ed., degree course in methodology of English, Kannada, Physics, Mathematics, History, Biology and Chemistry , commerce. P.E.S. High School is an experimental and is housed in the same building. It is a place, where a number of Action Research, Projects, Dissertations, and Student Counseling Centre that are carried out by the teacher education and student teachers.
